A few familier faces to the event will be appearing such as Benjart, Dope Chef, The Ugly Kids and more. There will also be a vintage deadstock stocklist there too along with Dj’s and food so it will be an event not to miss. A nice way to spend your friday night i’d say!

WE CATCH UP WITH THE STOW

August 13, 2010

Ok Ok…Im sure you have heard me going on and on about The Stow before although im sure alot of you are familiar with their music I bet some of you probly havent a clue what The Stow is.
Haydn the Front Man from the band was the model in our City Pushers Jacket shoot so I also managed to squeeze an interview out of him. Have a read below

So Haydn, Tell us more about the stow,
Okay the stow is a dog track in walthamstow that is on the verge of being ripped down nah im talking shit (well it is but hay) we are a 3 piece band with two lead vocals some people think we are a hip hop band some think an indie band we just say we make good music!

Who does the band consist of? and how did you guys hook up?
The band is made up of Me vocals/songwriter Shi vocals/songwriter Dave on the bass, Gus the 3rd (as in hes are third bloody drummer) on the drums, Matt J Money (real name) on the guitar.

Can you describe your sound and the overall vibe you try to bring with your music?
We did a gig for bbc introducing the other day in luton and some one said to me afterward we are the British N.E.R.D, iv had that one quite a lot so lets go with that for now. I think my fave was when an former AnR said we sound like the bastard child of Jay-Z and Pete Docherty!! in the words of Jay WHAT MORE CAN I SAYYYYY

Which People do you take influence from in terms of music and expression?
It’s mad we are a openly diverse band and with so many different influences it could and probably shouldn’t work but so far so good, from Jimmy Hendrix, cinematic orchestra and Charlie Parker to Jay-Z, Maxwell, Arctic monkeys and Red hot chill peppers we really just as a whole love music as a sound and a form of escapism both mentally and emotionally

Ok. Lets Talk style.
Who has Steeze?

I got to give it to him your boy Alex’s has got a mean swag i dunno about that tye die short sleeve acid shirt he try show me the other day through lol
Steeze is not really about style for me its more about how you pull shit off.

Who Doesn’t?
With that said gaga has none what so ever i dont give a monkeys she dont look good in them get ups maybe i am missing the point but hay!!!

we are aware you are a fan of NCC clothing, What do you like about what we do? and which other brands do you rock?
NCC you guys artwork for me is really visually engaging a lot of graff artist do clothing but cant get the balance between what will look good as a piece and what actually will work for clothing you guys have nailed it. Combine that with the color ways you go use and its a straight winner!

One of our artists Alexander Hughes designed your band T-shirt. Tell us about the idea behind the “Just Another Band” slogan and how can fans get ahold of one of the shirts?
Well Alex’s is a friend of mine and he was kind enough to kit us out with some Ts when we did the VV Brown tour, i really liked what you guys was doing so was like man lets do a little calbo, I had an idea about doing some T’s for the tour but we couldn’t get it done in time. As soon as i got back i was like man lets do this and JUST ANOTHER BAND was born, we wanted a slogan that would represent the stow but also any band/person could relate to and wear not just as a band t but as a fashion piece as well. The response for them has been wicked.

Talking of the tour how was that touring the country with vv whats your fondest memory?
It was a great experience it really showed us that this was a life that was possible for us, it was mad because even during the tour VV was flying off to Paris to do promo, then as soon as she finished that tour she was involved in another 4 date stadium tour then she was going to the states for 3 months to start promo over their it was non top for her it really blew my mind made me realise how much work goes into it but also how badly i wanted that to be my life.

What can We except from the stow in the near future?
Wow well its been an amazing year so far for us we have played two major festivals this summer in Glastonburry and the Camden Crawl. We are now just finishing off our Summer of gigs. We are doing in the middle of sorting out our own tour as well so we will be going around the UK again from the end of Janaury. We are also in the middle of trying to get all of the songs ready for our new ep so we got a lot going on.

you can also download our first ep from www.thestow.bandcamp.com so make sure you go download that.

Our next London Gig is 27th Aug Playtime live @333 shorditch its our last London show for 4 months so come on down!!!
